Microsoft Pyramid Solitaire

Pyramid Solitaire (free online) is one of the engaging solitaire variations offered by Microsoft’s Solitaire Collection, along with popular games like Klondike, Spider, Freecell, and TriPeaks.

In Pyramid Solitaire, players are presented with a unique card layout in the shape of a pyramid. The objective is to clear all the cards from the board by forming pairs that add up to 13. This solitaire variation combines simple rules with a touch of strategy, making it enjoyable for both casual players and those looking for a more challenging experience.

The pyramid structure adds an interesting twist to this game, requiring players to carefully choose which pairs to remove and when to draw from the deck. Pyramid Solitaire offers both a quick gaming experience and a chance to develop strategic planning skills over time.

Pyramid Solitaire follows the basic premise of traditional solitaire games but introduces a unique objective. Players must clear the pyramid by pairing cards that add up to 13 points. The pyramid is constructed from overlapping rows, with each exposed card available for pairing. Cards can be matched from the pyramid or the waste pile, and players must plan moves carefully to reach their goal.

Rules of the Game

Here’s a quick guide on how to play Pyramid Solitaire:

• Setting up the pyramid: The game begins with a pyramid layout, where cards are placed in a series of overlapping rows. The cards in each row partially cover the cards in the row below it, leaving only the "exposed cards" free for play.
• Selecting pairs: To remove cards from the pyramid, you must form pairs that add up to 13. For example, a nine and a four or an eight and a five can be paired. Kings are worth 13 on their own and can be removed as single cards.
• Using deck cards: You can also draw cards from the deck to help make pairs with the exposed cards in the pyramid. Be strategic with your deck draws to maximize available pairs.
• Waste pile: Unmatched cards go to the waste pile, but they can be paired with the pyramid’s exposed cards to help clear the board.

The game is considered won when all the cards in the pyramid have been paired and removed. However, if no more pairs can be made, the game ends.

How to Win Pyramid Solitaire

Winning in Pyramid Solitaire requires both skill and strategy. A win is achieved when you successfully remove all the pyramid cards by matching pairs that add up to 13. This often involves careful planning to uncover and expose additional cards, making each move count as you work through the pyramid and the deck.

Strategies to Help You Win Pyramid Solitaire

Here are some strategies to help you increase your chances of winning Pyramid Solitaire (free online):

• Focus on the Pyramid First: Start by clearing cards in the pyramid rather than drawing from the deck. This approach gives you more options to reveal hidden cards in the pyramid, allowing you to make additional matches.
• Make the Best Pairs: Choose pairs strategically. Prioritize moves that reveal hidden cards, particularly those in the bottom rows, to open up more pairing opportunities as you progress through the game.
• Use Deck Cards Strategically: Use the deck wisely, saving it for situations where you can’t make matches with exposed pyramid cards. This helps you preserve deck cards for key moves later in the game.
• Replay and Try New Strategies: If you don’t succeed at first, try again! Each game is different, and experimenting with strategies—such as focusing on particular areas of the pyramid or adjusting your pairing choices—can lead to success. Take advantage of any "undo" options to refine your approach as you play.

By following these strategies, you can enhance your gameplay and enjoy the satisfaction of clearing the entire pyramid.
